CORONA & MAUI CANOE & KAYAK CLUB – 2002 HURRICANE/EYECATCHER RACE SERIES

Flemings to Kaunakakai – April 27, 2002

REGISTRATION FRIDAY NIGHT 6:00 P.M. AT CANOE BEACH

Registration: Flemings Beach from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.  registration will close at 9:30 am 

 Entry fees: Solo = $20  Relay = $12 each paddler 

Divisions:

Kayak: Men open and masters (40+)       OC-1: Men open and masters(40+)           OC-2: Men & co-ed

            Women open                                           Women open

RELAY: OC-1 Men open and masters (40)         OC-1 Women open     ( 2 per team)

                OC-2  Men & co-ed  - 4 per team     Co-ed must always have a woman paddling.

 AWARDS:  top 3 finishers for each division except OC-1 men open = top 5 places.

**All OC-2 paddlers please contact Sharon ASAP so that we can prepare the appropriate awards for this division. Please call 879-5644 and leave a message: Your name, names of members of your team & division you will enter.

Mandatory paddlers meeting: 9:30 a. m.   Start: 10 a.m.  – everybody       Finish: Kaunakakai by the pier

 Awards/Lunch/Drinks at Moloka`i Canoe Club Halau Wa`a – right there at the end of the race.

Canoes:  Those leaving their canoes for the Kaiwi Channel relay – Our Moloka`i paddlers will transport for you – Doc Davis, Jerome & Choppie Kalama.  We will need to organize our canoes for them on Moloka`i.

 Those needing their canoe/kayak to return to Maui - several options:

~ return same day on the Paragon Sailing Charters – 1^st come 1^st served.  Talk with Eric Barto.

~ return the next day with Syd Medeiros (water safety boat/Capt.) $20 each canoe/kayak- you need to    bubble wrap/secure your own boat.  He can take 5 – 8.  Call Sharon to reserve a space 879-5644.

~ Young Brothers – shipping – call (808) 553-5431 for reservations.

~ Genavco – Airfreight – call  (808) 836-3467 – Gary Rego for reservations. $40 OC-1/Kayak; $50 OC-2

~ paddle back.

~ The Moloka`i ferry administration has stated that they will not transport canoes/kayaks back to Maui.  You are welcome to keep trying with them.

Transportation home for your self:

~ Paragon Sailing Charters following the awards.

~ Next day with water patrol

~ Molokai Ferry – departs Moloka`i at  2:30 p.m. $42.40 o/w or 6 people purchase a book of 6 tickets at $196.10 (about $33 each) 

~ Airlines

~ Paddle home
